Our future inheritance is kept for us and we are kept for our future inheritance
'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy
he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish,
spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith
are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready
to be revealed in the last time.'
1 Peter 1v3-5 (NIV)
We might not feel like praising God right now! In fact we have probably wondered why God hasn't intervened and done something about the spread of Coronavirus. Well God has done something about it. He intervened into this broken world through his Son Jesus Christ: 'he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead'. This new birth, this living hope is the beginning of something that will never end,'an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.' Just as Christ rose from the dead, defeating death and destroying the grave; so all those who trust in Christ will one day rise from the grave to be with him forever. God has guaranteed our future inheritance.
First our future inheritance is kept for us: 'This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.' Christ's resurrection secures it for us. It 'can never perish spoil or fade.' Can you imagine what this will be like? A world untouched by the pain and heartache of death. A world unspoiled by the selfish evil actions of people. A world unfading through the course of time and seasons.
Second we are kept for our future inheritance: 'who through faith
are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready
to be revealed in the last time.' We do not keep ourselves, we are shielded by God's power! Our 'faith' is in the one whose power defeated death. Can you imagine what that means? Death will be no more; no funerals, no goodbyes and life will rule for ever. Evil will be banished; no terror, no war and sin will never return. Suffering will be removed; no pain, no hurts and sickness will be healed.
God has done something for us: 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Prayer
Thank you Father God that you intervened into this broken world by sending your Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for the new beginning and glorious inheritance you give to those who trust in your resurrection. Thank you that you keep our future inheritance for us and that you keep us for our future inheritance.
